Green Design Solutions director Janine Strachan is also working behind the scenes to see the regulations changed. She is part of a Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) steering committee that’s identifying possible changes to statewide planning schemes and local council regulations. Ms Strachan said many councils were trying to reduce the regulatory barriers, particularly for tiny homes on wheels which faced additional challenges.

A university lecturer and house designer is helping boost the tiny house movement in Melbourne’s outer east. Janine Strachan, who teaches sustainable house design at RMIT university, is building a tiny house in the front yard of her Warranwood property. She will offer overnight stays in the house from late July to give property buyers a taste of tiny-house living.
